According to the World Food Programme,
there is enough food in the world today for everyone to have the nourishment necessary for a healthy and productive life, yet one in nine people (795 million) do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life.

An organization after Our Daily Bread's (ODB) own heart, The Robin Hood Army is mastering the art of saving food from landfills in order to save lives. The "Robins," as they call the 6,715 volunteers made up of largely students and young working professionals, collect surplus food from restaurants to give to less fortunate people.
ODB and The Robin Hood Army are kindred spirits, united by mission, devoted to feeding those who are hungry, on both a local and a global level. While ODB provides free meals in the Greater Cincinnati region, The Robin Hood Army operates feeding programs in 32 cities across Pakistan and India.
At ODB, on average 25 volunteers serve between 350 and 450 meals, five days a week, totaling 98,649 meals in 2015. Meanwhile, the Robins feed over 2,000 people each week. So far, in 2016, they have fed 1,022,636. Even more incredible is the fact that for both organizations, almost 100% of the food received is donated.
At the heart of it, instead of disposing excess food into our landfills this food is given to our efforts. Hunger relief organizations like ours thrive due to the commitment of volunteers willing to step up and get involved; the generosity of donors willing to fund the challenge; and the willingness of business owners that overproduce food to donate the excess to support the cause.
