When you think about the Cincinnati Reds, the images that come to mind likely include visions of parade floats dancing through the streets of Over the Rhine on Opening Day; hardcore fans dressed from head to toe in red, black, and white; popcorn, peanuts and Cracker Jacks; cheering from the stands; and standing shoulder to shoulder with friends singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game.
But what happens after the last pitch when the fans leave the stadium?
A virtual army of men and women walk up and down the stadium cleaning up popcorn kernels, peanut shells, and empty Cracker Jack boxes, getting ready for the next game!
Our Daily Bread is proud to support these hidden heroes of baseball through our Lunch For Redlegs program. Lunch For Redlegs provides healthy, hearty bag lunches to fuel the hard work of these custodians of the game.
Lunch for Redlegs is in partnership with The HELP (Re-entry) Program, which works to inspire hope in returning citizens convicted of a felony. HELP, a program of St. Francis de Sales Parish, works to provide a caring community of support and services that lead to employment and self-sufficiency.
Our Daily Bread volunteers, led by Chef Garland, prepare 100 lunches for every home game. This partnership serves both The HELP program’s mission and the mission of Our Daily Bread to provide stability and hope by offering free meals to those in need- and for that we are extremely proud.
