For a place like Our Daily Bread, what does it mean to build a “legacy?” Who and what inspires us to create a better tomorrow for our guests and for the City of Cincinnati? We started by asking the people of Our Daily Bread – our staff, volunteers, and donors – who had left an imprint on their lives. A lot of people said the classic figures from history and culture: Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt, Muhammed Ali. Some people turn to leaders in their faith, their teachers, or their parents. Some liked the rabble-rousers, some liked the creatives, others liked the intellectuals.
A lot of people said Mother Teresa and our founder, Cookie Vogelpohl. This was no surprise – they were two women who really knew how to feed people!
It was there that we found our inspiration. The one thing that all of our heroes have in common is that they feed something great that lives in each of us. They are the dreamers who see beyond the daily challenges of life. They are the the voices that talk the talk, the hands that do the work, the feet that walk the walk. They are the driven, the passionate, the focused, the dedicated. And they are the ones who show us by example how to build and nurture each other, and make the world a better place.
At Our Daily Bread we watch this inspiration play out every day, as we seek to fulfill our mission to “offer meals, hospitality and services in a safe, respectful environment.” So on behalf of our guests, whatever your legacy is, and whoever inspired you to it, we thank them and we thank you too.
Sincerely,
