The
heart of Our Daily Bread is to respond to the needs of the poor,
to accept the invitation to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly
with our God and those He sends to us each day.
Our Daily Bread provides a warm meal in a comfortable place for all who come to us. In response to an awareness of the special needs of children, the elderly and those with other needs, Lunch on Legs (meal delivery service), Kids Café (after school program) and Social Services have been established.
Open Monday through Friday, a meal is served from 9:45 AM to 11:45 AM with donuts and coffee from 9:30 - 9:45 AM. General hospitality is offered Monday - Thursday, 9:30 - 2:30 pm. We are also open most holidays from 9:30 to Noon. Kids Café operates Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3-5:30 PM.
We serve residents of Over-the-Rhine and the West End. Many are unemployed or unemployable. They are the old and infirm, the mentally ill, the working poor trying to make their minimum wage pay stretch. They are the homeless, the disenfranchised of our community.

This is a program run in conjunction with the Freestore/ Foodbank
and provides children of Over the Rhine a place to gather and have
something to eat at the end of the school day. We offer adult supervision
in a loving environment to children aged 5-13. Each day some activity
is planned, whether it is a story hour or a craft or learning sign
language or having someone from the Opera come and visit. There
is also homework help available, if needed, and books are available
for children to take home - thanks to generous donors.
There are over 100 children registered and on any given day there are
approximately 20 children attending Kids Café. We try to provide a warm
and loving environment for these children and one that nurtures their
spirits and their minds. So often our children see the harsh realities
of the street on their way home from school. We try to show them that
there is an alternative.

This is our initial outreach program, established shortly after
Our Daily Bread itself was established. Volunteers deliver meals
to Senior Citizens in a special building located 2 blocks from Our
Daily Bread. Each day, Monday through Friday, a different group
of volunteers will carry the meals over and deliver them to each
person on our list. They will check on the well being of the person
and will let us know if those Seniors have any new particular needs.
We can then send a needed blanket or socks the next day with those
volunteers. Usually, these are the only people our Seniors will
see all day as they are afraid to come out of their apartments or
too infirm to do so.

The needs of the residents of Over the Rhine are vast and complicated
and much greater than we can respond to on our own. Our Social Worker
works with our guests and other agencies to provide them the services
they need to be fully capable and contributing members of this community.
Often it will be something as simple as getting an ID or figuring
out transportation for a potential job. Sometimes it deals with
mental illness or other physical illnesses. Our
Social Worker often helps guests understand the social services
they need for survival and makes the necessary connections for them.
We often work with other agencies in the area to help a guest and
provide the solutions to their problems.

We collaborate with other agencies to provide better services to
our guests. We are happy to make our space available to other service
providers to ensure our guests have the tools to move forward.
Medical Volunteers of Cincinnati provide free foot care and shoes monthly to our guests. We organize this for them at our facility and they bring their expertise and materials.
The Parish Nurse comes in once a week to help anyone who has need of nursing care. She will check blood pressure and talk to guests about their ailments, educate them about proper care and recommend a course of action.
Tuesday afternoon Bingo is a draw in the neighborhood. Run by volunteers, it provides winners with needed household items, personal care items and, sometimes, jewelry and decorative items for their homes. This creates a sense of community for our guests and a sense of belonging.
Student Volunteers from local high schools and universities will come down and visit with our guests. They will often help them fill out forms, read or write letters and other small tasks. Often our guests, especially the elderly ones, enjoy having someone to talk with.
Movie Day brings people together to see a current film and feel they are part of the mainstream and understand what the rest of the world is discussing. It is small, but helps those on the edge come back toward center.
Every Tuesday, Ohio Justice & policy Center attorneys provide free legal services, consultations, advice and referrals, as well as possible representation, for ex-offenders who are trying to become productive members of society.
